BHEL - Patents


2014


For the purpose of National IP Awards 2014, the performance in the last 5
years i.e. FY 2008-09 to 2012-13 was taken into consideration.

BHEL was given award for the Category:
 The Top Indian Public Limited Company/Private Limited Company / Indian
subsidiary of a transnational corporation in Patent.
 WIPO Award for Innovative Enterprises.
Awardee:
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL)
i. Branch of IP: Patent
ii. Number of applications in this category: 24 (Twenty Four)

iii. Reasons for selection:
a. First patent filing in India was substantially higher for BHEL.
b. Large number patent grants in favour of BHEL.
c. BHEL showed very high commercialization of patents in India.
d. BHEL launched highest number of new processes during the last five years based
on the patents granted to them.
e. BHEL also had good R & D arrangements with Indian companies / foreign
companies.
f. BHEL had good number of on-going research programs with universities and
research laboratories in India

2011
The company spent over 2.3% of its turnover on innovation. It filed 303 patents and copyrights during the year. It has 1,438 patents and copyrights.

During 2010-11, the company invested an all-time high Rs 1,005 crore on research and development programmes (21% more than last  year). Commercialisation of products and systems developed by way of in-house research contributed around 18% to the company's total turnover ( Rs 43,337 Crore) in 2010-11.

Bharat Heavy Electricals appeared in 'The Global Innovation 1000' of Booz & Co, a list of 1,000 publicly-traded companies which are the biggest spenders on research and development activities in the world.

7000 Patents from Tata Group




Mumbai: The Tata group announced today that it has doubled its published patents in two years, from about 3,500 at the end of calendar year 2013 to about 7,000 at the end of 2015.
